Gertride Jeack: A Star on and off the Court
Gertride Jeack, a Senior at Little Flower, was named Captain of the Little Flower Tennis team, an impressive accomplishment. And yet, according to Mrs. Peggy Robinson, the head tennis coach and teacher at Little Flower, her best attributes come off the court. “She is every teachers favorite; anyone who meets her loves her.” These were just a few of the sentiments Peggy gave to Gertride.
Their relationship started back in Gertirde’s sophomore year when she was student in Mrs. Robinson’s gym class. After watching Gertride play pickle ball for the first time, Mrs. Robinson knew that this young lady with “the most amazing smile” had something special. Determined to get her on the tennis team, Peggy suggested Gertride try out. It did not take more than one practice for Peggy and the rest of the senior players to realize that she had “it.”
Through determination, effort, and a great attitude, Gertride found herself as a top three singles player her Junior year, with just one season of experience under her belt. After just missing out last year, Gertride, has All-Catholic honors set in her sights, something Coaches Robinson and McPeak think is more than reachable. Regardless of the adversity she and many have faced during this challenging time, Gertride focuses on two things she values most: her team and the Little Flower community. Despite such accolades, her focus has always been on what she can do to support her teammates to become better every day, even in a sport that emphasizes individual success. Gertride attributes much of this to the Little Flower community that has helped her become the amazing young lady she is today; one Little Flower is lucky to have.
