Two ninth and two tenth grade classes benefited from the expertise of professional actors during the week of January 24th. Paul Harrold and Bill LeDent from the Philadelphia Shakespeare Theater enthusiastically shared their knowledge and skills with the students.
Paul Harrold directed the ninth graders as they practiced a scene from Romeo and Juliet. William LeDent did the same for the tenth graders as they prepared a scene from Macbeth. They taught the students the relationships between characters. They worked on listening to and responding to scene partners. Both men clearly described what was happening at each moment. They helped the students understand what the character was thinking and what the character intended to do with each line to his scene partner. For example, a character who had just been insulted would try to put his scene partner in his place.
Each class was divided into three or more casts. As one cast worked on stage, the other students observed how well the story was being told. They noted what worked and what could be stronger.
Paul Harrold and William LeDent enjoyed their time at Little Flower. They said it was a pleasure to watch the girls gain confidence and improve their acting skills. From March 10th to April 10th, Paul Harrold will perform in A Man for All Seasons with the Lantern Theater.
