The Fine Arts Department at Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls offers a wide array of electives in the areas of Fine Art, Instrumental Music, and Vocal Music. Most Fine Arts courses are honors-level courses. There is no experience necessary to take a course. The Fine Arts Department offers three scholarships in each of the areas of Art, Instrumental Music, and Vocal Music.
Fine Art consists of 2-D studio art courses, as well as Graphic Design and Ceramics. Along with classwork, students have the opportunity to participate in some extra-curricular activities, including the Art Club and the Art Futures Program, which is in partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art. All students are also encouraged to display artwork at the Annual Student Art Exhibit each Spring. Students have another opportunity to display pieces for the Annual Junior Flower Show held at LF and sponsored by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society. Little Flower students partake in the Annual Archdiocesan Art Exhibit, along with several art contests throughout the school year. Students who qualify will be invited to enroll in AP Studio Art.
Instrumental Music offers private and rostered group instruction in the areas of strings, percussion, brass, and woodwinds instruments. Private lessons are offered to students both enrolled in an instrumental music class, as well as those unable to be rostered, for a fee. Students participate in the Christmas and Spring Concerts, as well as for various school functions throughout the year, including school liturgies. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the L.F. Pep Band, along with auditioning for All-Catholic Band/Orchestra.
Vocal music offers rostered group instruction (Vocal 1, 2, 3, 4 class). Members of the class make up the Concert Choir. Members of the Concert Choir participate in the Christmas and Spring Concerts. We also offer the entire student body the opportunity to audition for our select vocal ensemble, The Flowerettes, who also sing as part of the Christmas and Spring Concerts. In addition, vocal music students participate in various school functions, including School Liturgies, occasional TV Masses, the Annual School Musical and our annual participation in the Philadelphia Opera Company's Outreach Program. Vocal students are also encouraged to audition for the All-Catholic Chorus, an annual concert-opportunity sponsored by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
