The Klarich Center for Academic Excellence is charged with assisting the academic program in delivering a rigorous academic education to all students. To accomplish this, the Center offers different programs to improve student engagement and commitment. The Center provides enrichment and instructional support for students across all subjects and competencies to ensure that all students succeed in an academically rigorous high school setting program.
LEAP: LaSalle Early Access Program
This is a dual enrollment program through La Salle University for 25 students in the Business and Science Track. Students attend classes virtually and in person throughout the school year and summer to earn college credit. The Director of the Klarich Center monitors this program.
Reading Enrichment:
Students will initiate a writer’s workshop model based on the Common Core State Standards for Grades 9-11. Students will be grouped based on their common needs/assignments, and the Director will develop writing workshop activities to help the students complete their assignments and achieve mastery of standards in writing. In collaboration with teachers in the Humanities Department, the Director of the Klarich Center may prioritize effective writing skills in Argumentative, Persuasive, and Descriptive. In addition, if the Director of the Klarich Center sees low to average and basic skills in annotating the text, upper levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy for analysis in fiction and nonfiction, the employee will develop a reader’s strategy workshop twice a week. The following schedule is flexible due to the needs of the student.
Marie Gallagher Citizen Scholars Program
Named for much beloved Little Flower Principal, Marie Gallagher, who is credited with charting a course for Little Flower in the 1990s that set a standard for excellence and sustainability. The students in this program are mentors to a select number of freshmen. These students are mentors and help their mentees with organizational skills, time management, navigating course loads, and healthy social and emotional problem solving. The students selected as mentors share with their mentees the ideals and values of Marie Gallagher: everyone deserves help and a second chance.
Being able to express oneself is an amazing attribute to be able to contribute to the world. With the Bloom program, the young ladies came together under the guidance of Ms. Diaz to create a beautiful new addition that found its home in the cafeteria. Sadness arose with the closing of Hallahan and McDevitt; however, we can now fill that void with joy by embracing the transfer students into becoming our sisters at Little Flower. The mural speaks a narrative into our community. Expanding our community is reflected into the mural through symbols. It showcases various life lessons that can be cherished throughout such as “Love Thy Neighbor” and “Respect Your Community”. When looking upon the mural, you will see “Where our roots are planted”. We hope that all students, present and future students, will grow strong through their time at Little Flower and blossom into greatness.
